hey...i was going through some stuff on official Avatar site, i came across this
Toph considered Aang a rival at first when he almost effortlessly defeated her in the earthbending tournament. At first, she is unwilling to talk to him about joining Aang's quest and tries forcefully to keep Aang quiet when he talks to her parents at dinner about her earthbending skills. After dinner, however, a truce is made and Toph discusses with Aang her ability to listen to the earth and life under her overbearing parents. Later, Toph single-handedly saves Aang when he is held captive by the participants of the earthbending tournament. She has since joined him on his quest after running away from home, but not before throwing him into a tree via earthbending to even the score from the tournament. It remains to be seen if a friendly rivarly will persist between Toph and Aang in future episodes. It also remains to be seen if Toph, being the same age as Aang, will develop a romantic interest in him and/or vice-versa.
In the episode "The Swamp," Aang has a vision of Toph before meeting her. The vision may simply be a message that he would meet her in the future, but based on the emotional significance of Katara's vision of her mother and of Sokka's vision of Princess Yue, it may also indicate that he will come to care strongly for Toph.
i know its kinda old, but this part (It also remains to be seen if Toph, being the same age as Aang, will develop a romantic interest in him and/or vice-versa) is still to come
